Facing Anxiety

God always speaks exactly what we need to hear. Some days He speaks louder than others. Are you dealing with anxiety? We all have, myself included.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:33, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things (v.31 “What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear? What about the bills?”) will be repeatedly provided to you.”

Yes, most translations say these things “will be added” to you, and a quick study of the phrase reveals that it is translated from the Greek word prostithemi meaning to repeat: add again. It also means to give more, increase, lay unto, proceed further, place additionally, lay beside, or annex.

What does this mean? God’s provisioning for our needs isn’t a one and done kind of provision. When we live a life of constant pursuit of God’s Kingdom and His righteousness, He will REPEATEDLY take care of our needs.

Following God isn’t like winning the lottery and taking the lump sum. Following God is a constant seeking Him, and then He provides for our needs that we have in order to continue seeking after Him. It’s a flow. Seek God -> God provides so that we can -> seek God -> God provides so that we can -> seek God…  We’re not kept in a constant state of need. We’re kept in a constant state of provision! When we understand that, our anxiety melts away.
Think about your car. When you have a destination in mind, you start the car, put it in gear, and then push down on the gas pedal. Fuel goes into the engine and the car goes where you steer it to go. As long as the car keeps going where you are steering it, you keep giving it the gas. What if the car suddenly decided it was tired of driving on the narrow road? What if your car decided that the unpaved open fields on either side of the narrow path you are steering in down look far more freeing? Would you keep giving it the gas to go careening through the ditch, across open fields and into the forest, or would you get off the gas and hit the brakes?

Don’t let greed or jealousy or anything else get your eyes off of the destination God has for you! If we get our eyes off the road God has us on and ignore His will, should we expect God to continue giving us the provisions we need to head off into danger? When we stop pursuing Him, we disconnect from His provision.

The first step to getting back into the flow of God’s provision is seeking FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. What is it that God is calling you to do for His Kingdom? What areas of your life are you holding on to and not submitting to His righteousness and authority? YOU have to do something about it. Jesus said YOU seek first the Kingdom of God. YOU seek first His righteousness. If you’re sitting in the middle of the field, you have to submit to God’s will and let Him guide you back onto the road. God doesn’t force us into submission, we have to do that on our own. It doesn’t say that God will first take care of your needs, and then lead you to His Kingdom and His righteousness. No. First you must seek His Kingdom and His righteousness, that is submitting to His will. Then He can and will provide for your needs as you continue to submit to His will.
Following God is a constant state of provision!
